POV VIDEO – Springing into slush season @SquawValley & @KirkwoodMtn – 04/21/12

Music: Goth Trad – ‘New Epoch’

Synopsis:

After about a month off to obtain a Real Estate license, I embarked on a 2 day journey up to the legendary Sierra Range. On my spiritual journey I uncovered a police search for a loose gunman on a closed I-80, bluebird skies, no lift-lines, hot temps, a deterioration snow pack, cold beer, and wicked good time skiing. The snow was slushy yet strangely entertaining. Truth be told it was some of the most fun I had all season.

I met SQ99 and Girlski for a reunion of sorts. Due to the highway closure, our time together was cut short but felt like the old times skiing up in the PNW. We gave SQ99 a hard time, as usual, Girlski and I talked about law school, and WE HAD FUN SKIING….perfect day I’d say! After dropping off SQ99 at the Reno airport, I rallied down to South Lake to catch some sleep to awake early and hit up some perfect Kirkwood corn-slush. It was fun.

GAME START!:

It started to rain in the Bay….but I knew I wasn’t going East to the snow…

because of this…

…but the forces high above knew I’d pass on my first attempt…yippie!

While it snowed in Tahoe, I ran to Mexico…

Punta Minta to be exact…

The fountains were nice…

The sunsets were….meh

On my return, and after a work week, it was finally time to get in the car and head to some bluebird fun….

And what are the chances that I get held up going to Squaw before Sacramento due to a gunman on the loose? I mean, really? However, I was quoted in the article and I do have a story to tell…heh.

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl…BA681O72HS.DTL

It was 7:05am. Almost to Sacramento. And STOP. No westbound traffic. No eastbound traffic. Hmmmmm…….

When I saw this, I knew I had to get out of here….

‘Let me through, I need to meet SQ99 up at Squaw!"

After a 6.5 hour drive that should have been 3 hours, I finally made it to KT-22 at 12:45pm…ugh.

Headed straight to Olympic Lady….

Then to Chute 75 which was skiing ‘oh so nicely.’

We headed over to the Nose…

And went to my usual zones…

It was actually quite nice….

Squaw’s upper mountain looked great, but I just couldn’t leave the vert of KT!

The alternates were up next….

Looking to the South toward Alpine….

There’s something quite nice about skiing around the Fingers with nobody on the chair….

AND NO MOGULS IN THE RUN-OUT!!!!!

SQ99 wanted another lap in Chute 75, so I happily joined him…

Always good to ski with old friends….

WHy not a lap in the Rock Garden?????

And then follow it by a lap near Olympic Lady…hell, we’re the only people on KT!!!!

Time for the Chamois…its getting a little wet at the base:

Why not go wine tasting after skiing @ Truckee River Winery?

That night, I fell asleep to these…

KIRKWOOD DAY

The morning was spectacular….

If only I could remember the name of this lake…

And to think I took this with my cellphone…heh

Mt. Tallac looking a little Spring-like…

THE CIRQUE!!!!

Caples Lake and West Shore etc….

Round Top to Sisters….

The WALL!!!!!!!!!

Obligatory early morning groomer shot…

The snow was pretty soft from the get go, so I headed over to the Ski School zone…

And found a nice little air…

Over to Chair 10. With the warm temps, there was one line I figured would be good…

Yep, Once is Enough…

Then over to Waterfall…

A couple laps off the top didn’t hurt….

Upper Chamoix looked a bit thin yet EXTREME…I passed.

The untracked corduroy wasn’t too shabby as an alternate…

Back to 10, I did a couple laps in Norm’s Nose…

Then a lap down the Sisters…

One last lap on 6, I went above Ski School….

And was pleasantly entertained…

In a few short hours, my vehicle hit this temperature in Walnut Creek….

The next day I was buying this..

Thank Yew California!

Music: Need for Mirrors featuring DRS – D.F.T.F

Synopsis:

We are still under 100 inches of total snowfall (as of the last day in this report), but there’s still skiing to be had if you look hard enough. With a planned trip to North Lake Tahoe before Valentine’s Day, and as luck would have it, a fairly decent storm dropped close to a foot of blower over Squaw Valley on the morning of February 13th. Fast forward to President’s weekend and Kirkwood was skiing quite nicely in and out of bounds. Pray for snow. :-) Its seems to be working….

Sunday, February 12th, 2012:

The morning was filled with another warm walk to Fort Point with the kids…

With uber dry roads the wife and I were on the slopes at Northstar for a late afternoon shred session in around 3 hours…

Squaw from the Backside at Northstar…

Skiing was horrendous, so we grabbed a few cocktails at the new lodge…and took in the views of the upcoming storm…

The storm dropped around 7 inches that night…

…but once the groomers were skied off, there’s not much else to do due to the low snowpack…

After looking at Squaw…I headed there to meet up with Obscure Reference

Parking lot was nice and full so I expected moguls everywhere by now (11:30am)

Headwall not looking bad at all…hmmm

So…we take a lap in the Slot

…and below we didn’t find moguls

…but we did find patches of this:

On Siberia, Obscure had an idea…’how about we ask Patrol if the Palisades will open?’

Sure enough, Patrol turned the sign after we asked…heh

Hmmm…how will that debris be down there…it didn’t snow THAT much…

So we headed for first tracks down National…

Obscure had to leave after a few Granite laps down Corkscrew, so I decided to lap KT for the rest of the day. (hint: see video above)

The next morning I lapped groomers at Northstar before heading back to SF…it was quite nice.

Time to wash the car…in the gorgeous California sunshine!

A few days later, the boy and I headed up to Tahoe South for the holiday weekend…

Saturday February 18th, 2012:

Stevens Peak on the way to Kirkwood…

MildBill races down Ski School…

Jrosen32 makes an appearance in Main Street…

This is what it looked like….

JMetzler gets in on the action…

Looking pretty good right?

That’s right! Variable POW POW!

Boulevard still has some crap in the middle and I really don’t want to down-climb…

SSD just freaking RAILS a shitty snow turn…

Getting so god damn deep….

OH SNAP!

MildBill makes a turn near a forest….

dblatto gets hella crazy in a sepia turn…

Sean from SF finds a deep spot near Temple of Doom…

And then pulls some steepness in a wide angle style in Ski School…

S.P.C escapes rather quickly while I almost fall off this thing trying to capture the shot…

On Oops EP (Dan Cliffs), 666 goes for it…

On Oops LP, S.P.C finds wintery snow…

The next morning , the little guy and I slay chair 7 & 9 prior to ski school…

Then his papa skis an exposed line on Norms…

With dblatto, DaveP & Kelly, and Sean from SF in tow, we headed up here…

Nice day on Mars…

This shot screams war zone, not ski field….

Ah, even without snow, the Sierra is pretty….

Where is that guy going?

Don’t worry, he’s been there before….

Looks worse than what it really is…I guess

Yep, that’s the problem area for my 192cm Jag Sharks…

Ugh….almost there…

Sean from SF arrives from around the corner in a stoked fashion…

Dblatto makes a turn on some epic snow…

…and yet again, goes sepia on us…

Down to Emigrant Lake looks great…but its not.

Vista was good though…damn good.

Day 3 and we are having a blast!

MildBill and I have a line picked out, can you find it?

Frosty morning with a massive 1” of overnight snowfall…

He starts his descent…

Gathers his bearings…

Makes a turn near a wall…

another turn on snow….and he’s out! Yippie!

Super steep, not deep…

Slim sessions all that overnight fresh….

Emigrant glacier bank…

Lap 2….MildBill gets nutso….

…and makes a TURN!

He’s familiar with these next steps…

But a couple cooks scraped the landing a bit…

Yep, right there…

Fun line…

Slim found a deep patch on lap 2….

Back on Vista, MildBIll turns on the turbos…

And then I go into father spy mode at Timber Creek…

Yep, they are in the Ditch of Doom, or Terror, or whatever it is….heh

Hey, slow down mate!

And a nice sunset after a sweet weekend of skiing…

…and 5 feet of blower is expected in the next 48 hours at time of posting :-)

Music: LOL – ‘Trophy Wife’

Synopsis:

Even as the 6’er family needed to take a VACAY from the mountains while we patiently waited for the arrival of our next ball of terror, the storms kept coming. No, not warm storms, Alaskan low-pressure-popcorn-cloud storms wouldn’t stop. So what does a family do? That’s right…go to San Diego where its just as warm as SF!

Soon thereafter, the 6’er lucks out on a rippin’ last day at Squaw in mid-April. But of course, this skier could not avoid the endless news coverage of the record snowfall. Week after week it continued to snow. The bonus? Well, a longer ski season of course!

After the arrival of a healthy baby girl, father and son decided to rip up the last front side day of Donner Ski Ranch. Perfect day after a stressful 2 months!

The Mrs. finally got a decent pow day since her devastating ankle injury in 2003…

…and I think she had some fun…

I even caused an avalanche at Northstar…yep, an avalanche, believe it!

She was making some great turns in the trees…

Meanwhile, later that day, we decided to ride to Northstar Gondi for FUN!

Mesmerizing…

…but not as cool as this room we found at the Ritz!!!!

April 13th, 2010

Got about 6" of new on crust. Made for some good skiing, we have proof:

That’s not going to last long…

Random shots of Squaw sweetness…

Chimney Sweep super filled-in, but we decided to lap Silvy instead…

This brave individual wanted to send it in Silverado…

Unfortunately, he landed on rocks below. Don’t know if he was lost or what, but we hope he’s okay. By the next run, he was gone so I think Ski Patrol was able to help him out.

Jrosen32 getting some freshies right before the mank tried to take his knee…

zIPPY liking what Silverado has to offer…

Top of Silverado fun…

I wanted to hit this for sometime now…so smooth!

Almost as fun as Space Mountain!

Some skier’s on next years most funnest skis. I promise. So much fun on pretty much everything, since we skied every kind of snow that day.

…..Zippin’ zippy on lower hanging gardens

Derek gettin’ steazed….

Skier666 almost took the sled down after tweeking his pinky finger, but instead he skied it….

The top look of the straightline under the Tram. Good times, check the POV…

Trying to find some thing interesting off Broken Arrow….

Back to KT…where are all the people?

A fellow ripper enjoying the fingers as well….

We then moved on to the skier’s left of the fingers. You can guess that I know exactly what everything is NOT called at Squaw. TOTAL JONG!

Derek enjoying….

Rock Garden fun times….

Neck deep…

And finally, we moved to the dirty Dog to get some fun spines…

At 2pm it was basically untracked…

I heart SQUAW and of course, Zippy!

Thank
YEW!

Honoring ‘The Man’ while hoppin’ around KW & Squaw – 04/05/09

This TR is dedicated to you, Mr. Shane McConkey…you ARE one of the main reasons why I love to ski. We’ll miss you buddy!

Date:

March 4-5th, 2009

Location: Kirkwood backcountry & Squaw Valley of Earth

Kirkwood….

Squaw….

Both located in….

Weather: Hop’s POV pic below shows the best example….

Skiers:

skier666, hop, Arty50, Dblatto, S.P.C, & Lph

Cameramen:

666 & hop

Music: Ed Rush & Optical – Alien Girl – Prototype Recordings

Synopsis:

Hop is home for Spring break from his Scottish marine studies. He wants to ski. So therefore, I drove him to the mountains which is followed by taking photos of him sliding down slippery slopes of snow. We started at Kirkwood by hitting lap after lap in West Shore. However, by a large margin, the highlight of the weekend was celebrating one of the world’s best skiers by shredding his favorite spots at Squaw with some good friends.

SATURDAY:

Hop…wondering if he’ll remember how to make a tele-turn….

Good to be home, eh?

We saw a cute movie the night before…

Shugs joined us for some groomers, then took off….

Let’s just say that our day was mainly beyond the ropes…

We hit West Shore propa’…

And wouldn’t you know it….we found some winter snow….golly gee!

Hop even found an air around the Temple of Doom….

What? Really?

It can’t be?

Is it…

It is……A TELE-TURN!!!!

Diagonal Chute Massive Represent…..

666 finds powder….yawn.

We named this secret spot, The Milky Way….

….because sidestepping for a HUCK = MILKED!

666 before almost losing it down to the lake….

Hop is having a great day…

SO MANY PEOPLE!!!!

….well, none other than Nuthon and Powdork (who witnessed the 6’er take a gimped tumble from the Fawn Ridge zone)

Ooooooooh, I like this one….

Just a fun day in the 1930’s….

Damn, the snow was good down there…..

Geology is cool….

Aggressive, aggressive…

Now, that wasn’t a tele-turn was it, Mr. hop?

He left his tele-mark…..

Back at the base, the beats were bumpin’…

d

The Tecate Tallboys were flowin’….

And a baby Octopus for dessert, anyone?

SUNDAY: It actually was a superb day. Rolling SuperG turns on the new 190 Bibby Pro on a groomed Lady’s Downhill, to fast and furious carving laps top to bottom off Headwall all were second to none. Followed by a winterish Palisades lap, then to some Corkscrew goodness, off to Granite Peak, then to some Silverado fun, followed by some Broken Arrow corn festivities, and finally, topped off with a run on KT…on Spatulas.

Yay! Squaw!

Palisades are open….let’s go!

But first, I need some energy….

It was a memorable day indeed.

Looking down the meat…frozen meat….

6’er found some new headphones….while taking a crap at the summit.

Mountain shot….

S.P.C. gets aggressive….in winter snow!

Hop airs over the winter snow…

666 makes a winter turn….

Arty50 & Lph decided to join us…sporting some special skis…

Granite Peak? Why the hell not?

Hop in Direct Chute…yes, in a tele-turn….

S.P.C. gets crankin’…

Lph gets untracked….

Arty50 finds the soft stuff…

666 aggressively favoring his right shoulder….

S.P.C airs into a cornfield…

Silverado? Hell yeah, lets go. Hop hopping around…

Dblatto in Broken Arrow….

Dblatto under Olympic Lady…

S.P.C. is way too caffeinated….

Hop ‘s clothes are colorful….

…And here’s my last run of the day on the Spatulas for the very first time.

…and for that I only have one man to thank….

The very next day, unofficialandes posted this footage of a guy after my own heart….I mean, we both have the same pink coat! The line is just plain wicked, and the stoke emanating from it needs to stay alive. Check out their Squaw bloggage at UnofficialSquaw….

After skiing, we all went to Shane’s memorial. Incredibly touching and big thanks to all the hard work of Lane Meyer, Oldtimer, huckasoreass, and others for a job well done…your bro would be proud.

bye

Skiing the Sunny Ski Slopes of Squaw Valley International Ski Field – 01/17/09

*Sorry for the delay on the posting of the utterly amazing report of a trip I took skiing with fellow skiers. I had to basically move out of my apartment so we could repaint it….my apologies yet again. Now that its snowing, I figured it would be nice to go back in time and remember the glorious sunny days in January 2009.

Date:

January 17th, 2009

Location:

Squaw Valley International Ski Resort of California…

Weather:

Sunny….warm….no wind…

Resort Skiers:

666, Lane Meyer, Slim, & Carveman

Memory Capturers:

666 and Lane Meyer

Music: Ghostface Killa – Back Like Dat (DJ Marky & Bungle Remix)

Synopsis:

Sunny day. We did some piste runs (groomers in America), followed by some steep CHALKY lines in Cornice II bowl, Top of Granite Chief, and under Olympic Lady.

Slim hated it….

We saw Carveman…

01/17/09:

Winter trying to battle against Junuary….

Tahoe is a lake that is only blue when you max out your saturation…

YAY! SQUAW VALLEY…looks warm eh?

They have a Tram. They have a face below the Tram that’s always angry…

KT44 is the Mo5T Extreme lift in USA…

Olympic Lady is a cool lady…

The Palisades…need some snow (good thing the forecast is calling for some)

Alpine Ghettos…

Your dream run….

I convinced Lane to ride Squaw One Express…such a fun chair…

This CLOUD was the catalyst to the current series of storms….

Lane gets hella nervous on riding Siberia….

Load shot….hahahahahaha

*EXTREME*

THE Tower 4!

EMIGRANT LIFT, YES!!!!!!!!!!

GRANITE CHIEF! From this lift, you can hike to an elevation above 9000ft above sea level…

It has Slim’s favorite kind of snow…shitty…

FUN, skiing is FUN!

Look at all that CHALK falling down the slope!!!!

Direct Chute was looking pretty fun…

And since skiing is so much fun, we decided to hike to the peak of Granite…

…"back in high school, I could throw a football over that lake"

The southern view…albeit with no big blue lake…

Slim thought skiing down there was stupid, so I totally went for it!

Good times, skiing CHALK!

Lane Meyer get DEEP in some CHALKY ice…

666 praying to god he lands in the sunny spot….

All those extreme lifts are overrated….Its time to hit up the GOODS!

Ummmm, wow, that’s not my hand….

While taking our usual gnar laps on East Broadway…I witnessed the unbelievable…CARVEMAN!

We headed over to Sunbowl….which had a little too much sun…

Slim was ready to blow his brains out at this point…

In Cornice II bowl, they have off piste areas….

The best snow is always found in places that are hard to visit…

Good thing the Moment M1′s are named after a TANK!

Slim gets his only fun turn…..

Wanting the usual GnAr, Lane attempts to get up to Eagle’s Nest….

Sadly, after four steps, he ran out of breath…

Squaw, a Super Rad Glacier Resort – 04/21/08

Date:

April 21st, 2008

Location:

Squaw Valley Worldwide, California

Weather:

Bluebird, moderate wind, 40 F high temp at the base at 6,200 ft…almost all offpiste = closed.

Piste Whores:

666, Zippy, Lane Meyer, & Zippy’s buddies

People who used cameras:

666, Lane Meyer, & Zippy

DnB Music: Rufige Kru ‘THE BEEZ’

Synopsis: Deserted Piste Runs at Squaw

Everything was glaciated. We were regulated to the piste. EVERYTHING facing the northern direction was solid, even at 2pm. We did managed to find and schralp the .34 cm of new snow from the day before, but everything else was closed. No palisades, granite peak, etc etc…..but being able to lap the Mountain Run without ANY people or patrol was, I’ll admit, pretty radical.

We made up 25% of the customers on this day…

Doesn’t look too bad from the car…

Zippy’s buddy is a carve machine!

Its not Alaska, but at least our edges will be nice and shiny….

OMG, this guy was so fast…

Lane makes fun of our piste runs….the last day I’ll ski with him.

Yep, thats Zippy, and he’s near Granite….

Patrol didn’t want to hike Granite Peak to open it for us…but they did get a kick out of us taking pics of the POWDER!!!!

Lane gets a M E G A – F A C E S H O T!

Zippy goes ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE!

The jumps were big and er….frozen, so Zippy decided to hit the railroad.

THE Zoo SteEzE…

All that chairlift ridin’ made Zippy hungry….

666 was tired. He did do a day trip…and leave his iPhone on the Funitel. Don’t worry, he found it on lucky cabin #13.

This is a view of KT, looks are deceiving….

Lets go backwards…..

…in time and in direction.

LET’S CARVE!

666 wanted something, anything, worth skiing. The side of Eagle’s Nest will do. Some winter snow on top of smooth ice….I’m not complaining.

666 wishing Basom was around to witness the sickness…

OMFG, a super POWDER TURN!!!!

A decent day in the mountains. Too bad 666 was decapitated after Lane took this shot…props to the medical clinic for the fast response.

SICK!

Comis in a Democracy – Squaw 02/17/07

…the ski that is…

Date:

February 17th, 2007 (SUMMER – DAY ONE)

Location:

S Q U A W – A north shore skiing place between Truckee and Tahoe City.

Weather:

What’s the temperature on the sun? It was probably close to that.

Skiers on Comis:

Basom and a ski friend both on Comis

Music: Fracture & Neptune – ‘Ventura’

Synopsis:

The Comis wanted another run to beat out democracy at Squaw Valley International Ski Mountain of Extreme. As you will see, it was a close match.

Winter left most elevations on Friday night, which led to frozen slush, to slush, to a hint of winter snow on/off of Granite. Basom and I had one of those days…missing the shot, the skier misses the shot, lost camera, found camera, lost cellphone, oblivious to the Silverado opening, and well…..the cellphone is still lost. Overall, fun conditions under Oly Lady, and Granite…slush and concrete snow in between. However, the Communist leaders refuse access to the Palisades on the weekends…even with a full paid lift pass, so you’ll find no shots of them in this TR.

Driving up from the Bay on a Friday, on a holiday weekend….yep, might as well drive through Kirkwood to avoid the yahoos. Carson Spur at midnight….

Burning CD’s on the way to Squaw….Nerd Factor 15.

Tallac’s side terrain above Cascade Lake…

Hawking for a look on Eagle’s Nest….chocolate chips abound.

My gorgeous bride <cough> guide….basom.

On my way to da nest…some 58 year old no hat/sunnies locals yelled "there’s a much easier way." Funny, don’t think it took me more than 65 secs to get where I wanted to be. I guess they like postholing up a slushy ridge…I don’t.

The Comis make a nice argument…

Win a point for organization…

and another for strong leadership skills…

Basom on the banked slalom last year at Baker…

….George Bush skis on these. So Democracy earns a couple points.

Basom…skiing

Basom likes skiing steep shit…here’s evidence

Comi airforce isn’t too bad…

Now near Granite, Basom finds a solid line for bread

He waited 4 hours for this line…

But he ultimately got what he wanted…

Oblivious to the opening of Silverado, we decided to hold hands up to Granite Peak. But 666 noticed "winter" snow that the leader was hording to himself.

Glass of milk anyone?

California Dreaming at 9,000 ft…

My line was way cooler, but basom jumps in anyway.

At least he’s handsome, otherwise the gnar points would be minimal…

Gorby fines a line lower down….

666 Schmidting it in Corkscrew where some winter snow held on for life…

The leader gave him permission to get way 3xtrem3

666 running from the riot police…

Now he’s pissed! All he wants to do now is to carve the Comis….

RIGHT CARVE…

Oh no he didn’t! Its a LEFT CARVE at 136mm underfoot!

Back near the mob leader’s cabin….serenity awaits.

There’s actually a submarine docked waiting for an emergency departure if "shit went down."

The AP photo lifted from CNN World….

At the end of the day, Democracy got a beat down by the Comis, but once again, it prevailed….

…can you tell I’m running out of ideas?

Not bluetooth on this pitch…

He’s having a fabulous time…he told me so.

A mid-air horrible steeze point…

Lands in a pocket of fluff…

The snow looks really bad here…

Why even go skiing in Tahoe?

I’d rather take my Racerblades on the Embarcadero…

Such a fabulous early season pitch…

This run was fabulous and Enchanting….

Basom finds a fabulous line near Headwall…

….and he goes massively massive onto hardpack.

I really think we need a fabulous HUGE STORM! NOW!

Basom skis the Piste…

…<add caption here>

I’ve seen more food for sale at the Clubfields in NZ….

Again, this man goes huge!

Weeeeeeeeeee!

Looks like fun times…

He sees a camera and thinks he can take any line…

Chute 75 treats Slim well…

Mr. Lane Meyer invited us up from the Bay to stay in Truckee on Friday night. With a possible DJ gig at the house, I load up some crucial dnb vinyl and grab Slim to brave the holiday traffic. As most of the NorCal contingency is aware, Friday night was one of the worst commutes in a long while. For us, 6 hours to Truckee, normally 3 hour drive, but when its dumping at Auburn (elevation 1,000 ft) you know its going to be a really fun drive. Hell, even people were skiing in Napa:

Throughout the drive, texts came in strong from Supu, Shugs, and others throughout the night inform us that HWY 88 was closed for the evening due to ice, and HWY 50 closed due to people driving up on their summer slicks. The final text came from Shugs at 5:30 am, stating that he finally arrived in South Lake. That made our 2:30 am arrival into Truckee seem like a heavenly adventure.

After around 3 hours of sleep, we woke up to about a foot and a half of Tahoe’s lightest and driest, cool temps, occasional snow showers, and the occasional bluebird. Most of the steep terrain did have a firm coating of concrete under the blanket of fluff, so it was a day to cruise the pow and have….well….a great time with your intern3t friends. Not many action shots due to the fact that I was following the leader for most of the day.

Players: Slim, Lane Meyer, Basom, Oldtimer, Rob, NZ rider Skea_457, others, and myself.

Music: Konflct – ‘Messiah’

Lane Meyer, Rob, and Oldtimer acting like its cold in sunny California:

The fingers with a fresh coating of ranch dressing:

With Oldtimer acting as the guide, our Squallywood adventure started on KT22 with pow laps near Olympic Lady, which also included actually riding the Oly lift.

We cruised to Headwall in flat-light, and Antarctic temps to hurry back down to the Funitel to warm up and say a quick hello to Huckwheat. Then, over to Broken Arrow to ride some of the classic lines:

Lane Meyer looking for his two dollars….

Slim decides to grab some sierra cement:

Too bad he’s 7 feet tall…

The K12 – Lane skied this on one ski for the last run….but I don’t know why:

Slim in Silverado…

Looker’s right going up Silverado chair…

….and then looker’s left:

We ventured over to Granite Chief for a few runs only to find the Peak closed and Corkscrew shut as well.

Over to Headwall, and we find Squaw’s most handsome skier, Basom. Sorry, no pics….he skis way too fast, or………way too slow….don’t know which.

Needing to eat, drink, give a bluetooth lesson to Basom, and to say hello to some Kiwi Squaw implants, we headed over to Chamois. A couple more laps on Headwall and KT, we then called it a day.

Huge thanks to Lane, Rob, and of course Oldtimer for the tour.

Day 2 – Kirkwood, KaliFornya, United States

While at Squaw the previous day, we heard rumors and received texts by the powder hounds stating the skiing was just plain unbelievable. The storm fizzled out overnight, and only about an inch of new snow was reported. Hoping that the BC gates would read "Access," our day at KW would not disappoint.

Players: Zippy, Jrosen32, Lou, Slim, Arty50, Shugs, buddy of Shugs, and myself.

….and yes, the dogs have been let out…….sorry:

Zippy rides through the white dust in Eagle Bowl:

Zippy…on the spines at the bottom of Eagle:

Zippy near Hells in Thunder Saddle:

Jrosen32 copying his little brother…

Lou gets after it on the lower Cirque:

Arty50….trying to cool off due to the extreme heat from the hot conditions:

Lou screaming in lower Eagle:

Jrosen32 doing some gardening….

Zippy looking tight and doing a mid-air check for base damage….

Lou just can’t get enough…he’s hungry…

For the same thing Arty wants….POWDER!!!!

Up to this point, all the previous pics were shot INBOUNDS, the DAY after THE DAY, on a HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

Now, here’s the permatographer making a rare appearance on the Spur to test stability…at 2:30 pm…..and untouched.

Zippy drops in next….does it even look that good?

Zippy zips by on his 136 mm underfoot Moment skis….

but the lighter than Utah snow, will not even let the massive skis stay afloat…

OK, so back to business….Jrosen32 underneath the first Sentinel:

…and being swallowed by the powder gods:

…But wait….look who’s in the starting gate… L O U!

…and he’s hungry….HUNGRY FOR POWDER!!!!!!!

But the fellow Croat is hungry as well…

Leave some for Slim….Jesus:

No, seriously Arty, maybe Slim wants to ski some fresh…

I give up….

Slim at the 06′ Olympics going for the white medal…

…and he gets it!

Zippy, schralping the middle of the Spur…

Jrosen32 having a good run…

…but Lou thinks his run is better:

Damn, maybe it is…..you decide:

Arty goes for the photoslutting shot across the valley…

…and does a fine job…

Slim wants in on the action…not to be denied:

Jrosen32 lines up a cliff on the bottom of the Spur that we thought was 8 feet….

…it turned out to be more like 20 feet:

Zippy decides to ollie over the ice falls….

…and the Lou angle….

and finally, Permatogapher has a little fun….

I would say that this crowded holiday weekend ski day turned out pretty well, what do you think?

Day 3 – QuirkW0uld, NorCAL, North America – German Snowboard Press Tour

Players: Zippy, Charlie (NZ’s most eligible freeskiing bachelor, two female members of the German snowboarding press, and myself, the tour guide to make sure "everyone has a good time."

The weather consisted of a cool, crisp, bluebird morning with a hint of wind on the ridgetops…about 5 inches new, and the outside temp hit a balmy 0 F enroute to the mountain.

Steven’s Peak off of HWY 88:

Elephant’s back….looking yummy:

Charlie follows my tracks in Eagle Bowl:

…see how light that snow looks…it was soooooooo fast and smooth:

Zippy pulls the double "line of the day" next to Waterfall (directly in the sun)

…he’s committed now….

whatever…..so lame….I don’t even know why I filmed it:

Charlie skiing the blue-ice on lower Eagle…

Zippy trying not to scratch his unique skis….

PLEASE GOD, MAKE THEM OPEN THE GOD DAMN CIRQUE…

German in red getting some fluff in Thunder Saddle…

Permatographer getting the tail end of Zippy on the Hells Ridge:

German in blue getting super nice freshies under the Cirque:

Zippy in lower Sisters…

Schralping it…

I wonder what he’s listening to?

A nice shot of the face behind the wall chair…if we had more time, I would have hiked that thing just to get a photo of one big carve on that face…maybe next time…

German in red on Upper Sisters..

Charlie on a random ridge on Lower Sisters….

Straightlining out…

Kirkwood = so hardcore….

Charlie TRIED to convince the girls he’s not gay…of course, that didn’t work…AGAIN. Top of Palisades looking directly to the West toward Gold Country…

Thunder Bowl – a couple minutes later, we met up with a bloody-nosed border who said he got sloughed off the rock looker’s left of V-tree….if you look closely, you can see that he went big.

For the last run, we decided to take a leisurely walk to the Spur…hell it was good yesterday. The Wall and California Chutes in the background.

A ghostly tree near Martin Point…

Made it to the First Sentinel…the wind created some icy conditions on top of the Spur, so the girls decided to hit the shaded trees skier’s right of Sentinel #1.

Still looks good to me…

As a tour guide, its nice to give your clients the goods….

Charlie and I decide to hit the Spur anyway….a little wind-affected up top:

but buttery goodness the last 2/3 of the way down.

3-2-1 dropping into fresh….

yep…looks fresh…

oh, hell yes….its nice…

super nice….the choke at the end of the Spur is almost filled in. It still has about a 5 foot mandatory air that may freak people out that have a no air policy….just FYI.

A quick ride down Merrill street, and the time is 4:15pm…not a bad way to end the day.

The Permatographer’s Presidential Weekend 2006 TR, I hope you enjoyed it, I know I did
