Music: Wilkinson – Refugee

Synopsis:

It was a weekend full of sun, warmth and bluebird skies. Powdork and I decided to take a long boulder-hopping walk up to the Solstice Couloir on Friday, followed by two days of sessions with S.P.C and Dblatto over near Roundtop and The Sisters. MildBill thought we were nuts, but that just gave us more energy. As it turned out, we enjoyed a ton of uphill, but encountered decent skiing, great views, and a fair amount of exercise. Dare I say ‘better than expected?’

July 22nd, 2011:

Driving up Tioga and a view of a mound of rock with some ice…

Ellery area coming into view…

Our hike begins…

Getting closer…yet still miles away

Time to put on the crampons…Powdork makes a quick transition.

So much AWESOME exercise!

My view…

666 gets aggressive…

Nice views of a dying winter…

Mono oh Mono….

I didn’t feel comfortable scaling this puppy, so we dropped from below…

Powdork begins his dash back to work…

Get after it man, you earned it!

Its my turn…not a bad line for July 22nd!

Actually quite smooth as well…

Have I mentioned that enjoy skiing down more than the uphill?

Woot ‘r’ us…

This spot will work well for a lunch break before I venture up the Plateau to my Ellery descent…

n3rD…..

Just looking at this dried up all my sweat…

Dana Couloir, Mt. Dana, and Solstice Couloir….

Now atop Ellery, there lies the ‘no fall zone.’

Descent #2 looks a bit longer eh?

Dropping’…

That chute looks smooth….

….July 22nd faceshot

Mid toilet bowl…..

Done skiing for the day!

July 23rd, 2011:

After little convincing, dblatto and S.P.C battled the mosquito clan to rally from Woods Lake to Roundtop.

We are such great friends…skiing just does that to people.

S.P.C is a mountaineer….

Dblatto does some stretching below the Moon Crescent ascent…

666 takes a nap…

We headed up the looker’s left line…

S.P.C wished he had my crampons…

They definitely help..haha

Come on boys!

From the Summit, some nice views…

You can see a lot from 10,000 feet near Lake Tahoe….

‘Hey look, someone brought up my skis!’

Dblatto goes for a ski….

He survived and met up with S.P.C who didn’t wait for my camera…

I might as well give it a go…

Gosh, this is fun…

Next, we traversed over to the Sisters….the view from behind to the South.

S.P.C hates hiking…

…but is a handsome ski model, so he has no choice.

Backside of Kirkwood is shown….

S.P.C takes some SuperG turns….

…on better than expected snow

Dblatto thinks we are at NASTAR…

…and skis down a corn field.

S.P.C continues his descent….

I went down a sliver….why not?

Interesting snowpack….

Dblatto heads down to Roundtop Lake…

…he even made turns…

Definitely and East Coast style….

S.P.C sprayin’…

Leroy, lets do this…

Success!

Time to check out the glissading down to the car…

Tele-glissade is SO hot right now…

Planking on a plank….

‘you do know that will dehydrate you?’

July 24th, 2011:

Back to Sisters with a mission…first up was the corn

then a traverse….

across a bowl…

to transition into spikes that attach to my Tecnicas.

I think this will do….

Powdork showed up to yell obscenities at me from across the valley…

Yippie…skiing.

It was DEEP!

Another traverse to the left yielded another line…

…such a fun walk…

So fresh and so clean….

Did I mention ‘better than expected?’

I left my signature…

…this one is just my pee trail.

Powdork and friends skiing down to Winnemucca Lake….

Time to cross this thing…

666 needed his Comis…

Rinsed…

My wife and kid flew out to Florida to meet up with the in-laws, so I did what any reasonable father would do….ski as much as humanly possible. This is a story about skiing throughout the sidecountry of Kirkwood, the chutes of the Hall of the Gods, a sleeper pow day at Kirkwood, and a quick trip to gator and flamingo country

It was also the week of Charlie Sheen. Let us never forget. Duh…WINNER! No warlocks or Trolls in this TR…

Java Porn: Mmmmmmm…3 days of 7-Eleven’s finest!

March 4th, 2011:

I departed San Francisco a tad late with a 6am departure…

But made good time into the foothills where I stopped to take a picture of the Earth

But I arrived to ski the Spur untracked…

666 makes a few turns….

As luck would have it, Powdork had the same idea….

It was horrible…

He had to cross too many tracks…

Untracked schmears are boring…

Powdork enjoying his run….

Here, he descends down the mogul course…

666 skis through the sierra cement….

666 then takes a couple laps in bounds….Norm’s Nose:

Oops EP…..

A meet up with Skiin’ Ian led to a tour near Cali Chutes….

I made a pee, phone call, and drank a Red Bull here…

To the Southwest

To the Southeast…

We decided to ski the Headwall prior to Cali Chutes….

Skiin’ Ian leaves some room for the 6’er…..

Man, it was good….

So good, it warranted noodling….

My POV….

The damage….

Time to hike over to Pipeline….

It was good in there too…

Skiin’ Ian enjoys the sport of skiing….

666 had fun in the powder…

The zone is that rocky bit in the distance…

Near Lake Tahoe, winter had her grip on the boating community…

March 5th, 2011:

‘Act as a leaf and fall into this lake, and pow turns will be had’ – a wise man once said…..

Sierra Cement, Gimpy and I head up while contemplating a hotwire….

The journey was mixed with ice, sugar snow, and sweat…

Up and up we go….

We approach some gnar….

Sierra Cement thinking about….yep…donuts.

Our first line encompassed Main Halls with no tracks….

666 went down a tad to take a few photos…

Not too ‘slabby’…

Gimpy provides avalanche testing…

Sierra Cement getting hella extreme…

666 approaches the choke…

From his point of view….

…and continues onward….

Sierra Cement goes next but refuses to stop….

Do you blame him?

Gimpy follows suit…

And exits out of the bottom…

666 survives as well….thank god it’s a blue run.

Another round?

Desolation Wilderness looking phat….

I believe this is :Lake Tahoe but I could be very wrong….

A very very very large cliff looking down towards death…

Our previous line…

On the Angora side, we take a few turns before heading to the Fallen Angel area….

Sierra Cement knows what to do…

Gimpy loves to ski as well…

666 descends a boring pow face….

Needs more ice for carving…..

Near Fallen angel, Sierra Cement takes a GS line….

A little variable in here, but all around great fun…

Gimpy enjoyed himself…how do I know? He gave me a hug at the bottom.

Later that afternoon, I headed out to KW to witness MildBill making a turn into Once in Enough…

Success…

After all the hiking earlier in the day and being a bit bored with steep skiing, I decided to take a nap on top of hospital air…

Steven S Dallas flames through Sisters Chute…

…even busted out a wall slash!

Guess the meat…

March 6th, 2011:

It wouldn’t be a skiing day in 2011 without driving on snow…

At the parking lot, the 4-6 inches looks more like 14 inches….

Open before 9am? No WAY!!!!!!!

MildBill ollies into Upper Cham….

666 takes the easy way in….

Not only is he sexy in pink, SSD is actually a damn fine skier…

mmmm….powder skiing….

That’ right, get after it boy!

Fun times…

Sleeper pow is always fun….

Damn snow….

Lower-outer-Palisades…

That damn snow again…

Thunder Saddle opened, so time to jump off stuff…(opposite of Kodak)

And a little ‘one man chute’ I believe…(near Soul Searcher/Tremans)

One last run off the side of Oops and lower Cham…

March 9th, 2011:

And then a couple days later, its off to Naples, Florida! Wahoooo!

Gator country…

…and beach camo-lizards

and white sandy beaches….

Hop came along but he’s underwater taking pics of that thing…

Some golf happened…

March 14th, 2011:

And an early Monday morning direct flight to SFO across alligator alley…

Flew over the San Juans where the Red Bull Cold Rush 2011 was happening…(you can see Telluride in the photo)

…and of course, the Central Sierra

…and it continues to snow at time of publishing…

Location(s): Round Top, California

Kirkwood Meadows Slushgnarows

Weather:

Riders:

POV VIDEO – MOOOOOOOON…

Mission to Moon Crescent & Slushgnar @ Kirkwood – 01/16/11 from skier666 on Vimeo.

Music: Loadstar – ‘Link to the Past’

Synopsis:

With reports coming in that it rained to extremely high elevations just a day prior, and with two days to do whatever we wanted, we figured we should attempt to ski something above 10,000 ft. That’s where Round Top came into play. Unfortunately, only the upper 3rd of the Moon Crescent had wintry snow.

After a morning of hiking, we zipped over to Kirkwood, where sun, beers, and softening snow blew our minds. The next day followed suit.

Java Porn: Lines are getting out of control at the South Lake Starbucks, so sometimes you have to go old school…

Trip to the Moon!:

What a better way to spend a Friday night than driving to the snow…

A little fossil fuel cam…

Not really a dawn patrol, not really an Alpine start…but cool nonetheless…

It may be warm, but there’s still some snow hanging around…

I think the coffee is wearing thin…

Now if they would only plow our skin track…

Its not really that far is it??????

S.P.C is killing it on his first skin ascent…

Our line comes into view…unlike the way it did in the last photo…

S.P.C reconsidering his late night skin cutting session…or should I say ‘early morning skin cutting session?’….

Skier666 heads up to check the snow conditions at the bottom of the chute to decide to hike around or up the damn thing. Yes, we walked around…

This was as close as ‘powder’ we got….

Up and around the bend, its time for a push to the summit…

Yippie! Ice, scree, and sheer drops to the South!

S.P.C decided that this was scenic and all but a little too sketchball…

JMetzler makes the push…

False summit 2011…

WE MADE IT! SO ski mountainery of us!

Oooooo pretty pictures…..to the Southwest

To the South…

I should have gone to art school…

A lake…

The Moon Crescent from the summit…JMetzler decided it wasn’t the best line to try out his new Dynafit setup, so I jumped in…

Looks so incredibly fun!

Not so fun…

This is better….WINTER SNOW!

Ok, time to do some skiing…

Doesn’t look so bad from here….

JMetzler rips down the corduroy….

S.P.C finds a ribbon of GREATNESS back towards the car…

SUCCESS!

Off to Kirkwood. Might as well hit the Extreme Traverse…just don’t trip.

Above Ski School skied well…

Same for Sisters Chute…

Nice afternoon looking West…

Back at Bub’s….Irony set in…

The next morning, Skimoore carves down Norm’s Nose…

I ollied his markings…

And then we are off to a hidden stash…

S.P.C. heads downhill…

JMetzler finds a SECRET chute…

I think it goes…

Skimoore came from Paris just for this run…

S.P.C is the next customer…

bye bye…

666 goes for it…

West Shore was looking prime for wetslide activity, I think not hitting freezing the night before played a role in that one….

Temple of Doom tried to swallow Skimoore but failed to do so…

He then migrated to Hells….

We soon met up with Gerome and crew on Chamois…

A run over to the Fingers…

Gerome rolls into Once…my little camera fails to focus…

Down here?

666 follows the big monkey…

Good times…

Its not really 50F at the 8,000 ft is it?

…Even colder at 500 feet…

Cows were stoked…

But cleared up on a bridge over the Bay…

And I thought Moon Crescent was narrow…

We actually skipped SF and made it to China…yet, in record time.

And I had another birthday…yep, I’m 12!

see ya’

Music: Ed Rush & Optical – ‘Medicine’

Synopsis:

It continues to snow. Another 12" plus of snow has fallen yet again up around the Tahoe area. Powdork and I decided to do some car shuttle laps on the Carson Spur instead of heading to Squaw. Actually, we lucked out, as the Palisades were ripped by the dreaded East Wind. Lap after lap, we enjoyed the variable snow while getting much needed vitamin D.

The following day, we headed out to the Fallen Leaf backcountry to session a lap in the Hall of the Gods area. Good times down a steep chute and open bowl back down to the car.

DAY 2: Fallen Leaf Lake backcountry

We then decided to run up to Hall of the Gods on Saturday morning for a little exercise.

Good morning Mr. Fallen Leaf…

Good morning Mr. Tallac sir and friends….

Why don’t we skin up there?

My moon, oh glorious moon….

Ahhhhhh……L A K E * T A H O E

Lets go up Elly Mae!

Fallen Angel comes into view…

A Desolate land?

Elevation = gained!

What’s above Angora Lakes you say?

Destination?

Well, to make a long story short, as we got to the peak, and tried to enter the chute where I did last time (years ago), the snow level was just a tad too low to enter safely. We would have had to slide down 15 feet of granite with the hopes of hitting soft snow and not tumbling down the chute looker’s left of the chute shown with tracks. Therefore, we skinned up around the corner and in my schedule, I had to bolt down the Main Halls and jump into the car. I forgot to even take a photo of my descent…yes, even skier666 forgets to take photos.

Thank you!

Recessionary Recreational Radness in Ralstonia, CA – 01/16/09

*In these turbulent times, luckily large computer monitors have plummeted in price, so I am now increasing the size of the pics in my TRs to 800×600. If your using a an old RAZR to view TRs….my apologies.

Date:

January 16th, 2009

Location:

Ralstonia…somewhere near Mt. Ralston in…

Weather:

Sunny, some east wind, highs in the 40′s….corn on sunny aspects….

AT Skier & Splitboarder:

666 & Bcrider

Slaves to the Photoblog:

666 and some guy on a snowboard named Bcrider

Music: Break – Is this what you want?

Synopsis:

In this economic downturn, even the weather is connected to Bernie Madoff’s shady ways. To make matters worse, skiers and snowboarders have united to share the mountains. 2009 will be an interesting year…..

Snowless for a few weeks, the Tahoe area has been sunbathing in abnormally warm temperatures for this time of year. Surely, its not just a cornfest is it? Of course not. Time to grab a hoodie, press play on your cd walkman, and walk up a sheltered north facing aspect. We chose Ralstonia. A winter playground with plenty descent options just below Mt. Ralston.

01/16/09:

If it wasn’t for all those colors, an AMC Eagle would have t-boned him on Hwy 50…

WE HAVE TO GO UPHILL?

My skins failed, so ‘Team Tecnica Bootpack’ was happy to reach the summit…

Proof that he used his splitboard…..

Pyramid Peak….

Bodysurfin’ Sierra at Tahoe…..

I’m sorry, but Sierra’s best groomer looks firm as fuck!

Weeeeeeee! Lets Ski!

The East Wind made things way better than expected….

Now its your turn Bcrider…I’m over skiing CHALK…

View of Kirkwood….I can see people stopped on the lifts from here…

Just GO ALREADY!

Boarders like popcorn….

In this economic turmoil, he went for a free harvest….

The field had many crows…

However, as an ugly bloke…bcrider exited on a full stomach…

To work off the extra calories, he started hiking on the bootpack I set…

Any guy who just rides the backcountry is just creepy and here’s proof….

The work of the East Winds….

TEH SLaY3R rock!

666 takes a more exposed line….

Untracked firmness is what he was after…

He now has a child, so he now wears a helmet…

The snow was variable, winter to solid ice to CHALK….

It barely went…

He had fun….

We summoned the blackhole to transport us back to the summit…

We set up some gates…

Corn is overrated…

Grippy snow is better….

Bcrider slays the bootpack pow-ish pow…

3 week old Tahoe pow? YESSSSSSS!

ROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!

He channeled Craig Kelly….

I forced him to boot-up another chute….he really didn’t want to….

I was so excited to ski, I led the charge….

I think it was worth it….

Some sheltered snow below….mmmmmmm

Look damn tasty to me….

No better ski to use in Tahoe than a pair of Moments with the same name…

In this economy, backcountry skiing can save you money….

…and get you some decent snow

Turn up your Bass!

I’m sure when you clicked this TR you expected CORN….so is this what you WANT?

No, I’m not going to start snowboarding….

Quick tip, instead of trying to make old skins make do….just throw them away….

In these challenging times, we found a place for lunch…

BEAT THE RECESSION, GO BACKCOUNTRY
SKIING!!!!!

!Caution! “Patchwork off of CA HWY 88″ – 08/12/06

TR: !Caution! "Patchwork off of CA HWY 88" – 08/12/06

Its an all too familiar scene in the middle of August in California….

You wake up to go cruise the world’s most famous body of water east of the Pacific, west of the Atlantic, south of the the Gulf of Alaska, north of the southern tip of Chile, and between South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe City….

LAKE TAWHWHOEH!

Audio:
Spirit – ‘ReDial’ off of Headhunterz LP on Metalheadz

You start off slow, enjoying a scalding cup of coffee….

Stare at shades of winter on Tallac…

And begin your summer paddle to Emerald Bay…

People wave at you when you’re nude and taking photos of boats…

Rockier than the Rockies…

666 grabs some 60 F water for patchwork session…

Outkast made a song about this water….

But the boats left, and I had to swim home…

So naturally, after being properly hydrated, Pimpin’ Frog and Shugs grabbed another for the enormously long 30 minute commute to the bottom of the Patch…

The Patch quiver…Nitro Supernatural, Seth Vicious, and Kingswood Skinny:

And the project comes into view…

View from the summit…

Shugs begins patching up the suncups…

And misses Jamie Pierre’s jump by 244 feet…

But lands the record air into a carve…

And ladies and gentlemen, he’s finished. Yes, one run on the Patch and he’s more than content…

We find Pimpin’ Frog contemplating his line, or feeding marmots…

At around 61 degrees, its the steepest line in the Sierras…

but the Frog, decides to only throw in ONE TURN!

But only to warm up on his ski-dancing routine…

The Frog’s legs are now fried….

The patchwork included some dangerous work on the "gnardical face"

666 tries not to slip into the massive crevasse…

His edges hold and finds an invisible gate…

Patchwork halfway finished…

The groomer…

The jump…

You go too far or don’t land, you hit the mother earth…

666 patches the dirt on the side, but it immediately melted…

Shugs told us to leave, but I’m going skiing damnit!

YOU PARK AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SNOW! WHY NOT ANOTHER LAP?

Mid August Sierra face-shot!

Pimpin’ Frog wearing the dope pant, hat, and polo…

This is what you do when you don’t want to drive to Mt. Hood…

One more layer…

Patchwork complete, you may now use the Patch…

But not before Shugs rolls through the Mississippi…

Moon Crescent Couloir & Kooky Kirkwood Carnage – 04/29/06

Date:

April 29th, 2006 – Moon Crescent Couloir, Round Top Peak, Carson Pass, CA & runs with the kooks at Kirkwood.

Part I – Moon Crescent:

Weather & Temp:

HOT AS BALLS!

Partcipants:

666, Basom, and Tyrone Shoelaces on the moon. Met up with Kush, Aka, Arty50, Lph, DaveP @ Kirkwood

Gameplan:

Start at Carson Pass (elevation ~8250 ft.) and skin up to Round Top Peak (elevation 10,381 ft.) run back to the car, drive to Kirkwood, eat a hot dog, grab a beer, and take a few runs.

Music: (right click, save target as)

Digital Nation – Night Train

Basom applying his duct tape skins to his boards….

The target…Round Top Peak…

Almost time to ditch the skins…

Booting up wasn’t so bad…

Basom didn’t like it, he said "It tired him"

View behind the summit….

Lake Tahoe….I think

More vistas…Blue Lakes and surroundings

The pitch…

Basom’s line???? Some wetslide activity from the day before

He’s getting really gripped at this point….he wanted to hike around and go to McDonalds…

I told him that we’d hit McDonalds "on the way home"…for a milkshake if he’d just sack up and ski….he did!

Funny, the snow resembled a milkshake..

A boarder got there just before us and did avy control on the face…but it still was sliding out everywhere.

He’s such a photoslave….

and such a great ski model….

that he DIDN’T FALL even once!

Work it, work it, you go girl.

Ty is up to bat, with bases loaded….

He seems to like the "pitch"….

Takes a "cut" on it…

Seems to have a "hold" on it….

The snow decided to throw a change-up, and it started to move on him, but he held it together and scored the winning run.

Now he’s just rounding the bases….

Now if he only could shake that ‘roids’ accusation circulating the tabloids…

The devil guy makes it to the summit….wants to ski an exposed line, on very sketchy snow…

However, he takes a test turn and decides that it is a bad idea…

He turns around a decides to ski an untracked spine instead…

Probably wondering who took these photos, right? We’ll some guys walked up behind us took some pics and emailed them to Ty….thanks guys!

The snow actually had some freshness still left in it…a small crust layer exposed some winter snow underneath.

Definitely a cautious ski….wouldn’t want to fall off the cliff onto hardpack.

Basom cruises down to Winnemucca lake on some stellar smooth corn…

666 with some less intense lines in the background…

666 on the groomer…

I guess he like sidecut on skis….

Ty rallies the lower part down to Winnemucca Lake

…"Take some more turns man, you hiked up that!"

What did you say?

"Cool Tree to Mank" shot

The Result:

PART II – Kirkwood Madness – Day BEFORE long board day!:

We find Kush taking a nap on the plaza…

Arty50 wearing a gorilla suit in 70 F!

…just so he can say that he dropped Upper Cham in it….

Basom going "shirtless" for his fans on Upper Cham…

Ty laughing about the gorilla suit…..he’s a little slow.

But then takes some nice turns down Oops…

Basom links up a double….with the weather starting to change?

OK, so now its officially HAILING!!!!

Don’t believe us?

They closed the lift, we heard thunder, and saw lightning, but we still had 10 people on top of Upper Cham…so core!

666 gets determined…

But he’s afraid the wet snow will just release on him…its about 3:34 pm

Just point it dude…

You’ll be fine…

Told you, you wanker!

Ty tests out his 179 Bros…

Kush pulls a cravasse air…

His older brother goes for some sexy form…

Lph "things" it up over some rocks and sinks into the mank…

Basom attempts the Oops tree slide….

Will it hold?

AMAZING!!! He even cleared Kush! Someone get him a trophy…

AKA finds a fun little line…

Leroy Jenkins sure is proud of you AKA!

LONG BOARD DAY began the next morning…we know what happened there

Hell….I went to Heavenly today – 02/10/06

With my father-in-law in town from Chitown, we rolled to Heavenly for him to warm up a day before we hit Kirkwood tomorrow…..and of course for the Tahoelishish and GORGEOUS views of the big-blue lake coupled with snow-capped mountains.

This is a story about Heavenly 02/10/06…

Music: Loefah – Voodoo

Started in California, skied a couple runs on Ridge, cruised to Nevada, did a couple runs up and down to Stagecoach…and the snow was actually pretty good. I was expecting firm-ice in the morning and slush in the afternoon, but it was actually packed-powder on ALL the groomers.

Desolation Wilderness area:

Lake Tahoe…..I think…

Lake Michigan…

Killebrew Canyon and view of Minden, NV….

I rolled into Gate B….went skier’s right, aka TeH GnAr of Heavenly, which is pretty much dead center in this photo:

View from the top of skier’s right of Gate B….nice wind-packed snow and a long pitch for Tahoe…I was happy

View of "The Y" in Mott Canyon…another damn fine north facing slope:

I took a couple laps in Killebrew and Motts…stuck to the north facing aspects, which was pretty good, but had an ice-layer towards the bottom of these runs. The last lap in Motts, I rolled into the "Cliff Area" section by Ernies…skied down to the narrows…slayed some Granite and found some nice winter snow underneath before it turned to the ice layer as I neared the bottom of the chair.

Good day…

Trenching Through the Tallac Talcum Powder – 01/16/06

After a sweet powder day on Sunday in the Tahoe area and with Monday being a holiday, it only made sense to spend the day skiing. I’ve wanted to take skier666 into the bc for awhile and he’s been wanting to check out Mt Tallac so we hooked up for a blind internet ski date. The man called hop came along for good measure too.

We met at Alpina in SLT. I didn’t know what the skier devil looked like but hop sure was easy to spot. After some quick hellos and coffee we headed off to the secret trailhead.

Music: Rufige Kru – ‘Fear Heaven’

Hop and his trusty suby.

Soon we were on the skin track that gimpy and tyler put in the day before.

Skier666 and bcr

hop

On the acsnet ridge we saw some skier triggered slides form the day before. You can see how the steep rollovers become sensitive at the convex. The snow looks a little thin there too, the rocks might have acted as a weak point.

Skier666 and hop checking out some of the lines.

And then sharing a special moment with each other.

Due to the low visibility we stayed out of the bowl and skied the trees from the ridge. Group shot with hop’s camera and tricky mini tripod. He’s currently working on a chest cam attachment too. Next level for sure.

They brought one of the best bc foods (PIZZA) too without even knowing it.

Soon it was time to ski, hop drops first.

This pic reminds me of Santa Clause.

Totally Tahoerific Mid-Summer Saturday – 08/13/05

[skiing related below]…trust me…[skiing related below/]

Date: August 13th, 2005

Location: South Lake Tahoe

Start time: 6:15 am

Music: Klute – Crosby

Its been a while since I produced a lengthy TR, so here it goes to add some stoke to the wonderful TGR Board in mid August…

Anyone not familar with Tahoe, you must understand that this lake gets ROUGH, so you have to get in the boat early. Venti Americano…Starbucks’s only drink that I’ll buy…..to go boatin’ with

666 trying "wakesurfing" for the first time….did someone say Mad Skillz? I thought not…but a nice pic with Tallac in the background.

Mrs. 666 getting up on her first try at wakeboarding……so proud.

Then my uncle SCREAMS past us in his new Cobalt….my ride is now officially unpimped.

Here is where I thought I saw Tahoe Tessie’s tail….it turned out to be a hair on my right contact…but I was scared shitless.

We tied up the boats in Emerald Bay, swam around, ate lunch…..then the Tahoe Gangstas showed up….

Then my cousin DJ Dave P, and I decided to make the most out of the day. Yes, we’re going fucking skiing……SNOW SKIING! Dave puts a gun to my head and forces me to hit up Staples on the way so he can grab 100 CD-Rs for $19, and copy all my cd’s on the way to the snow.

Dave and I had a total of 4 hours to get in some turns. I really wanted to hit up this face (that Vets, Divegirl, and Legoskier hit the same day) but I left my car key in the ski boat after I already packed the car…a 20 minute detour. So we decided on the "main" patch.

Ideally, since I through my crampons and axe in the car, I wanted to make a run for the lookers left chute in Moon Crescent…..but I didn’t have the time. To me, it looks 50/50 possible.

The aspens on the dirt road off of HWY 88 from Red Lake to Blue Lakes.

THE F’IN PATCH….after a 200 mile hike from the car to the snow, we decided to take a pre-run, and then build a jump (that you can never build and hit within 2 hours)

DJ DAVE P aka the Pimpin Frog…sunglassless stokage!

666 making the most out of the terrain….probably around 65 degrees.

…into a screaming right carve towards the dirt. The snow was actually pretty good since we were there so late in the day. You could just plow through the suncups and let them rip…..kinda suncupped corn.

Pete Tong laying down the "essential carve"…

Then airing over our "segway scooter of jumps"…I tried to hit that thing, but I could only max out at 8.1 feet. I recommend bringing a pre-made wooden mold and then fill it in with snow. Bottom line, spend more than an hour building and hitting a jump.

….This was the groomer section….

….the 9.3 foot air over the super lame jump….did someone say SICKTER?

The STEEZERCIZE shot…

Ever wonder what that pocket is for on your board shorts? To hold icy-cold, diet, non-alcoholic beverages so your hand doesn’t get cold, of course…..

…..nice way to end the day….Satan moves in and takes over the Earth with all his fiery glory…..er, wait…those are clouds.

Moon Crescent Couloir with Smally – 4/29/05

Moon Crescent Couloir…Finally!

I have driven passed this damn couloir thousands of times since I was a young lad. Learning how to fish at Caples and Blue Lakes respectively, it has always been glaring at me with its evil eye. With about a foot of new, nice, buttery pow, along with a solid base, today we would be atop that bitch………..finally.

The players included myself, Tyrone, Telenater, Slim, and a desperate kiwi named Smally. We departed South Lake at 7:15 am and meet Tyrone at the Meyers Chevron (where Supreme is $3.19/gal). With some donuts, super size Viennese blend, and drum’n’bass bumpin’, we departed to Carson Pass, home of Round Top peak, Elephant’s Back, Red Leak Peak, the Pacific Crest Trail, just due East of Kirkwood’s backside.

Tyrone and I wished we had a gun to shoot each other in the head to end our misery by deciding to hike the ridgeline. My skins failed to cover my skinny skis, and Ty’s knee didn’t like the steeper skinning ascent, so we figured we’d hike the “rocky” ridgline. Needless to say, hell ensued. Knee deep wind-drifts took off some extra calories from the cookies I ate during Xmas.

CRESCENT FACE KILLED!!!!

Heavenry to Kookwood – 01/22/05

Went to Heavenry last friday and took some pics of Killebrew for you all. Not too many pics out there so I thought I’d help out a bit. I can honestly say that I really like skiing Gate B. Its consistently steep, lots of granite boulders everywhere (similiar to Granite Chief at Squaw) making millions of different lines to choose from, north facing, and high elevation. It also has great views of the Minden valley which astonishingly still had snow-cover. I’m pretty sure some people on this board skied all the way to Gardnerville last week and it still looked good to go…with 5,000 vert or so.

It was probably in the upper 50′s on friday above the fog, and my brother-in-law and I still found some winter snow laying around up there. Even some untouched fresh in some of the technical boulder lines.

January 22nd, 2005 – Kirkwood

Yes…crowded. I roll there with my dad, etc at 8:35 am and the lot by 6 was already full. Why?, because they extended the "$20" pay lot proper. Oh well, I guess I can’t blame them. So we parked past Red Cliffs which I haven’t done in years.

Super sick groomers off of 6 all morning, then roll to 10 & 11 to hit up some more. Lunch. Then the backside to hit west shore with Arty and my brother in law who decided that "he has kids and he shouldn’t ski that" so he hiked back out into Fawn Ridge. I skied the chute skiers left of West Shore proper, the one that rolls to the right. I have no idea why I didn’t take a photo. It was crunchy mush on skiers left and powder on skiers right with some crevasse-like holes where buried rocks warmed up the snow.

Finally, took a run on Oops which was getting close to bulletproof and bumpy. Then did the usual roll to the half-pipe where I meet Mr. Steeze himself, Punani and the ever friendly SkiDawg. The pipe was about a 6.3 on a 10 point scale. Icy but with some nice vert. Definitely more of a "superpipe" than the last few years.

Perfect weather, bluebird, NO WIND, and warm. The snow held up well on the north aspects and so did the Fat Tire in the sun at the Off the Wall Bar.

South Shore Storm Super Pics – 01/12/05

With road issues standard from the last couple of days…we made it. Arty, Hop (who seems to haved moved to Tahoe), Nick (Non WWW), and of course Hardrider, and myself in appearance.

The roads went from dry to pow to dry to flat light to sun from South Lake to Kirkwood. About 6 inches new which felt more like a foot. Flat light and *surprise* some strong gusts on the ridges, we bombed some fast smooth pow on chair 6 and then got 3rd chair on the wall….fast pow and some 15-20 fters, we ski the wall for the rest of the day, find some nice lines and pow on Norm's Nose until we were trapped on the wall chair for about 15 minutes in a winter hurricane….and dumping snow. This is where Hop stated "by far the most fun I've had all day." After lowering our body temps by 50 F we bagged it….here's for tomorrow.

So it hasn’t snowed this much, this fast in 88 years…so I figure you guys want to see what it looks like. These pics are from Heavenly on the 11th, and Kirkwood on the 12th.

11th – 2 1/2 feet of dry pow and some sun poking through but Carson Pass closed all day, so all of us roll to the Heave. Gimpy, Mrs. Gimpy, Hardrider, 666, Arty, Geoff, hop (of course), and HASKINS.

We roll into the trees off of the tram….nice foot and half of fluff. Then rolled into Motts for a couple hours…skiing lines over the granite boulders off of Ernies. Hop and I hit every line possible, most I’ve never skied before. Killebrew didn’t open but it would have been epic if it did. We then skied firebreak straight into Harrah’s….first time for me, and one of the longest consistent run I’ve skied in Tahoe….erie with the burned trees but the untracked made up for that. I split up with the group, hit Maggies bowl to far skier’s left of Gunbarrel and skied OB all the way to the parking lot…untracked fluffy goodness at lake level…not an everyday occurrence.

So now the total bluebird day. Its basically the first clear day in weeks….at Kirkwood. People came out in the masses, half of the Bay skipped work and rolled up. At about 1 am, Greydon Clark, Chill Winston, Su Pu, and Monster Dump roll up to my crib like crack addicts needing a fix. Dump and I stay up and play some Japanese Dreamcast Shooters. Chill and Mr. Clark bail at like 5 am to hit Waterhouse. It was cool this morning too…driving on the icerink to KW, my car read -14 F at Hope Valley….roll into the lot and its already packed at 8:39 am.

Here are the pics that go with Pu’s TR in the other thread.

Carson Pass: Eastbowl near Round Top – 05/22/04

With the Bloody Couloir on our minds for the next day, and a Markleville burger’s sent skimming the air, the sickness ensued with Greydon, Sam, and myself pulling into the packed lot. As Greydon pointed out in the other thread, at the early bird start of 1:00 pm at Carson Pass, only one other vehicle dared to brave the deepest pow days of late May. Yes, mid-edge deep in places circled around our brains to create the excitement only dreams are made of. With a total hiking/bouldering/skinning time of 3.67 hours and 39 seconds and 5 turns of true downhill madness, the trip of a lifetime was about to unfold.
